DIRECTORY OF NEW HIRES

Businesses must report all newly hired employees who live or work in Rhode Island within their first 14 days of employment.

Form I-9

Businesses must complete a Form I-9 for each employee. The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) requires that businesses keep all I-9 forms on premises.

Form W-4

Businesses must provide employees with a Form W-4, Employee's Withholding Allowance Certificate, to complete. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) requires that businesses keep all W-4 forms for at least four years.

WORKPLACE REQUIREMENTS

Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training

  • Businesses must display the Department of Labor and Training Poster
  • Businesses must carry workers' compensation insurance
  • Businesses must report all workplace injuries immediately to the Department of Training
